Every woman has at one point heard, seen, and fortunately or unfortunately depending on the person’s outlook, been a part of a wedding as a bridesmaid. Quite a few women have either experienced, or know someone that experienced having to wear an ugly dress to someone’s big day. While some can just take this ‘tradition’ in stride, others have straight up refused to dress poorly in order to honor someone’s wedding occasion; which makes sense on many levels.
During the occasion picture after picture is going to be taken, and mostly the people that are directly involved in the ceremony are going to be having snapshots taken of them. As the years fade by, people who didn’t attend would only have the pictures to go on, and those that did might not remember things quite as well as they happened. But one thing for certain is that pictures don’t lie. Who would want to forever be remembered down the years as one of the few that wore the tacky dress? Not anyone that has any self respect, so to all of the brides out there that want to have their bridesmaids all where the same dress, be aware of what is chosen and why. No one should feel put out at a wedding.
The classic theme that all of the bridesmaids dresses must be ugly in order for the bride to stand out are not true at all. In fact, it’s quite the contrary. If the bride’s maids don’t look up to par with the bride herself, it makes the whole wedding look off. Not to mention dressing someone up, or down in this case, into something that purposely looks unattractive will not only speak lowly of the wedding, but also of the people that the event is about. It does not say good things to have to make someone hideous in order to look good. While some might take it as low self esteem, others might see that as an attempt to one up someone, and that can lead to rather awkward situations. Weddings should be fun, not filled with tension.
Picking out an appropriate dress is not as hard as a lot of people might think however getting something that works for everyone on the other hand might not be as easy a task. What might look good on one person can have the completely opposite look on another. Everyone is different, so a good way to avoid having some look out of place is to pick neutral colors that compliment or match the theme. So for instances if the theme was winter wonderland, having bridesmaid dresses in shades of blue, white, silver, and even some lighter grays would be the better choices of color. The next thing to worry about is the cut of the dress. Some women look great in a short length dress, some look better in the longer varieties, so doing the best to find a happy medium will make the final dress look nicer on everyone.
Having the right bridesmaid dress is just as important as having unique wedding favors for the guests that attend the special occasion. Because just like the wedding favors, a nice dress says that the person wearing it is cared for, and being thanked for taking the time to come be there for such a momentous time in a couples life.
